Case Studies & Resources for Teachers

Designed by teachers for teachers, the Pedagogy in Practice video-based case studies provide examples of practices from new and accomplished teachers who share their methods for supporting and engaging students, managing day-to-day classroom activities, and making subject matter accessible.  The cases include over 200 downloadable PDF resource files.

To view the cases Adobe Flash must be installed on your computer.

Video Case Studies in Science and Math

To address the critical teacher shortage in math and science, the Teaching and Learning Interchange (TLI) provides online subject-matter training and our Pedagogy in Practice online video case studies of accomplished teaching. Originally conceived for use with pre-service and intern teachers, field reviewers recommend them for use at all stages of the teacher professional continuum.   Simultaneously with providing needed training in subject matter and teaching pedagogy, participants practice their technology skills and applications.

The video case studies demonstrate lessons from real general science, biology, chemistry, physics, algebra and geometry classrooms at the middle and high school levels. The cases are supported by over 200 downloadable strategy resources and an online library of additional materials.  Each case shares the teaching dilemmas of either a National Board certified or San Francisco Exploratorium master teacher.  Reflections on assessment, classroom management, lesson planning and other downloadable materials provide the viewer with essential resources for reflection on their own practice. Strategies for supporting English Learners and special needs are highlighted. All lessons are aligned simultaneously to the California standards for teaching and science subject matter content along with California teaching and technology standards.
